Whether it is complying with the original Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) or the subsequent Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, landscaping and lawn mowing services providers will do their best to deliver and produce visually- stunning and concrete evidence.
After 2015, when the targets for the eight Millennium Development Goals were not achieved, the United Nations established the Global Goals or Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This in furtherance of the goals not completed previously. All member states of the United Nations adopted these goals as a universal call to alleviate or end poverty, protect Earth, and ensure that all inhabitants of the planet enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. A decade is left to continue implementing the programs in pursuit of these goals. A stronger commitment by all stakeholders and a sense of ownership of these SDGs will help a lot in transforming them into a reality.
The 17 SDGs
These 17 SDGs include a total of 169 targets, 1035 events, 1221 publications, and 5285 actions, distributed for each of those goals. Briefly, these bold and ambitious goals envision a future with no poverty, zero hunger, good health and wellbeing, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry innovation, and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, and sustainable cities and communities.
A world where there is responsible consumption and production, which takes urgent action in combating climate change and conserving marine resources. A planet with inhabitants who use land sustainably by preventing desertification and loss of biodiversity promotes peace and provides justice for all. To accomplish all these, there is a need to strengthen and revitalize partnerships by all countries worldwide.
Most of these goals were put off track by the COVID-19 pandemic. It is uncertain when these goals will be put back on track. With each nation trying to implement measures to offset the pandemic’s problems in their own regions, it is unlikely that they would think of contributing to its fulfillment. Much has been downturned by this tragic event. As it stands, the action in one aspect, as with poverty reduction, will impact the outcome of other areas. A balance between economic, social, and ecological sustainability should be maintained for SDGs to work as an integrated unit.
The Group of Eight (G8)
These goals are easier said than done. To end poverty and achieve peace and prosperity would require states which compose the G8 (Japan, Canada, United States, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Russia) to be truly altruistic towards developing nations and implement projects without having to concede anything or something in return. As it turns out, getting the “aid” needed requires an alignment to their views with a few concessions to be given in return by developing countries.
What of Lawn Care Me and Landscaping Services?
Three of these goals, namely, numbers 11 (sustainable cities and communities), 14 (sustainable use of oceans, seas, and marine resources), and 15 (sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems), can be complied with landscaping and lawn care services providers. These three encompass terrestrial, marine, and sustainability and resiliency of human communities and settlements.
Their team of reliable landscaping and lawn care technicians, botanists, and certified professional landscape architects adopt practices congruent with targets set by the United Nations. Their plan and design of conservation- oriented landscapes, low- impact development projects, permeable pavements, water- efficient lawns, etc. will deliver a strong visual testimony to these goals’ compliance. If these aren’t proof enough, what else will?
